How to grow long hair - Good advice for growing long hair

Do you dream of having long, beautiful and healthy hair? If so, luckily you can do some simple things yourself to boost your hair's ability to grow normally. You can do this, among other things, by saving on hair styling, changing individual hair care routines, and eating a varied diet. You should take care to keep the hair healthy so that it does not break.

Many women – some men too – dream of having long, thick and healthy hair. But it is far from everyone who can grow a hair of that character from nature's side. Fortunately, we have gathered here a number of advice and tips with things you can do yourself to get long, beautiful and healthy hair as quickly as possible.

In order to achieve long hair , it is first and foremost important that you optimize your hair's strength so that you prevent it from breaking. Therefore, it can often be a good idea to keep an eye on how shiny your hair is, as it reflects the health of the hair and whether it is dry.

Your hair care is also very important for your hair . For example, you should notice how often you shower, when you comb your hair, what hair products you use and whether you blow dry it. By combining both the internal and external care of your hair, you ensure that your hair has the optimal conditions to grow normal hair.

How long does it take to get long hair?

It can often take a long time to get long hair. Often it takes 3 months before you can really see a difference in your hair, whether it has become longer or not. It can therefore be a good idea to take before/after pictures when you try to get long hair, as otherwise you may forget how far along in the process you have actually come. The hair has a growth phase of about 5 years and here the hair grows about 13 centimetres a year, which after the 5 years will give a hair of about 65 centimetres. However, this can vary greatly from person to person This is why long hair will often be between 60-80 centimetres long, so if you start from a short starting point of between 20 to 30 centimetres in length, it will take around 2-3 years before your hair becomes long.

How fast does hair grow?

Your hair typically grows 10-14 cm per year. This means that on average, your hair grows 1-2 cm per month and approximately 0.3-0.4 mm per day.

So that would mean your hair grows this fast after:

  • 14 days: 0.49 centimetres
  • 1 month: 1.05 centimetres
  • 2 months: 2.1 centimetres
  • 3 months: 3.15 centimetres
  • 6 months: 6.3 centimetres
  • 1 year: 12.6 centimetres
  • 2 years: 24.6 centimetres

How long it takes for you to grow long hair depends, of course, on how long your hair is at the moment. If you have very short hair, you can therefore expect it to be a longer process to get long hair.

The life cycle of hair - How your hair grows

The life of the hair takes place in three phases: a growth phase, a transitional phase and a resting phase. It is in the growth phase, also called the anagen phase, that your hair grows. The phase lasts between 2-8 years and approximately 90% of the hair on your head is growing at any given time. It is therefore this phase that is decisive for how long your hair can grow. If you want healthy and long hair, you must extend the anagen phase as long as possible . Therefore, it is important that your hair receives optimal nutrition both from the inside and the outside, so that you optimize this growth phase.

The next phase is called the transition phase or the catagen phase. Here the hair stops growing, the hair follicles become inactive and the hair therefore begins to degenerate. The hair detaches from the scalp and loses the blood supply and thereby also the supply of important nutrients. The catagen phase lasts approximately 4-6 weeks. The final phase is the shedding phase or the telogen phase, which is a phase of approximately 2 to 4 months where the hair goes into rest before being shed from the body. Among other things, it is these hairs that you shed and e.g. gathers with the hairbrush.

Here you see an illustration of the hair growth cycle and the phases it goes through.

Step guide: How do I get long hair fast?

When you want long hair, it is therefore first and foremost about being patient . Going from short to long hair can quickly take two to three years before your hair becomes really long. However, it depends entirely on what your starting point is. The key to making hair grow fast is therefore patience and continuous good hair care.

Fortunately, you can do a lot yourself to help your hair grow. It is first and foremost important that you make sure you eat properly. There are a number of vitamins that are important for your hair so that it can grow normally. In addition, you can change your hair care so that your hair gets the best growth conditions.

1. How to get long hair quickly: Inner and outer hair care

You can have good external hair care with expensive shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments, but if the internal hair care is non-existent, it doesn't matter. Therefore, it is healthy that, while looking after your hair with good products, you also eat healthy and varied food. In this way, the body most likely gets the vitamins and minerals it needs to produce normal hair. If in doubt, you can supplement with a dietary supplement. We recommend Hair vitamins, which include contains biotin and zinc, both of which contribute to maintaining normal hair.

Supplements for the hair

"Theirs are amazing and definitely the best hair vitamins I've tried. They have saved my hair from going completely worn out, damaged, thin fairy hair and not growing at all to the healthiest hair I've ever experienced before.
I can definitely recommend that everyone who suffers from hair problems try their hair vitamins😍"

2. How to get long hair fast: Take good care of your hair when you want long hair

When you want long hair, it's not just about growing it out of your head faster. It's also about how you treat your hair. If you don't treat it properly, you run the risk of it breaking off - and that also helps put an end to it becoming long and beautiful. Therefore, avoid tight hairstyles, which can damage the structure of the hair. We have collected a lot of gentle hairstyle in this blog post here.

3. How to get long hair quickly: Hair care is important - Wash your hair approximately every 3 days.

First of all, it is important that you wash your hair in the right way. You should not wash it more often than every three days and preferably in as cold water as you can stand. Hot water and frequent baths contribute to making the hair dry and frizzy, so that it breaks more easily. Also pay particular attention to which shampoo or conditioner you use, this can also have a decisive effect on the protection of your hair. As a general rule, you should avoid shampoos and conditioners with dangerous chemicals, phthalates and especially the drying SLS/SLES sulfates. You could also consider using a hair mask that is moisturizing and contains good oils, such as argan oils or inchi inca oil, to ensure optimal hair care.

After you have had a shower, you must also be careful with how you dry it. Only dry it lightly with the towel, after which you can save it easily with a detangle brush. Then you should hug it with the towel again. This ensures that you do not damage the natural structure of your hair. You can also consider using a microfiber hair turban , which is gentle on the hair.

You should only use a blow dryer to dry it on special occasions. The hair dryer also helps to dry out the hair and make it frizzy, so that it breaks more easily.

4. How to get long hair fast: Scalp massage - Blood circulation is important for faster hair growth

Give yourself a scalp massage to stimulate blood circulation to your hair roots. It is very essential to get all the nutrients around the hair and thereby create the best possible strands of hair. Here, a good idea might be to use a Deep Scalp brush , which gives you a delicious scalp massage while stimulating blood circulation. In addition, it also helps distribute the hair's natural oils and cleans the scalp, so that the hair gets the best growth conditions.

5. How to get long hair quickly: Be careful with hair brush and hair products

You also need to be careful about using your brush when your hair is wet. In a wet state, the hair is more elastic, fragile and therefore breaks more easily. Use a Detangle hairbrush to save your hair when it's wet. It also helps to make it difficult for you to grow long hair.

Hair products like gels and hairspray all contain chemicals that are often not healthy for your hair. This partly means that the hair is not as strong, and partly means that you have to wash your hair more often - and this, as you know, is not healthy. You must therefore be very careful to only use hair products that are gentle on the hair and have nurturing properties. Among other things, check whether your shampoo is sulphate and silicone free, as these ingredients can dry out your hair. Here we would recommend our grow and glow shampoo which is without SLS/SLES sulfates and silicone, you can find the shampoo here .

6. How to get long hair quickly: Avoid high heat and styling products

You should only use hair styling products if absolutely necessary. Every time you straighten, curl, use hairspray, mousse and other hair styling products, it wears down your hair, which makes it easier to break. It is especially heating appliances that can be harmful to the hair, as it helps to dry out the hair and wear down the hair's structure. If you have to straighten your hair or use another heating device, it may be a good idea to use a hair oil that is heat protective . In this way, you ensure that your hair is worn as little as possible.

You should also avoid extensions at all costs. It's a quick way to grow long hair, but your hair roots will be totally destroyed by it. This will make it much more difficult for your hair to grow in the long run.

Although there are many things that you can do yourself to get longer hair, it is first and foremost important that you make sure to strengthen your hair with the right hair vitamins. This is clearly the most important, and here you will experience the greatest effect in terms of getting long, healthy hair.

Avoid high heat and styling products if your hair needs to grow faster

7. How to get long hair fast: Get regular haircuts

Although it may seem counterintuitive, getting regular haircuts can actually benefit your hair. By being cut regularly, you prevent split ends. It is often by preventing split ends that you can actually gain the most in relation to growing long hair. If the split ends are given free rein, they can grow larger and damage more of the hair, causing it to break completely. In that case, it will require you to cut several centimeters off at the next haircut. If you would like good advice on split ends, read our blog post on split ends right here .

8. How to get long hair quickly: Give your hair plenty of moisture

Moisture is extremely important for hair if you want it to grow longer. With adequate moisture, hair can maintain a healthy structure and remain strong, preventing breakage and helping it reach longer hair lengths. Moisture also helps with the growth of new hair cells so your hair can continue to grow stronger and longer.

The roots of each hair contain sebaceous glands that naturally produce an oil called sebum. This oil helps keep the scalp moisturized and nourished, which in turn allows the hair follicles on the scalp to remain healthy, promoting hair growth. If the scalp becomes too dry or lacks moisture, the hair follicles become weaker and unable to maintain healthy growth. Therefore, regular use of products with moisturizing ingredients such as natural oils (olive oil, coconut oil , etc.) as well as moisturizing treatments are essential to keep your scalp hydrated and nourished if you want longer hair.
Also try to protect your hair against environmental aggressors such as UV rays by wearing a hat or scarf when outdoors and/or by using a leave-in product with SPF protection when styling your hair outdoors on sunny days.

In general, moisture plays an important role in achieving long hair, as it helps maintain a healthy environment for optimal scalp growth while protecting individual hair strands from breakage due to harsh external factors or inappropriate grooming routines.

Why is my hair not growing?

Hair stops growing for a number of reasons. First, the normal human hair growth cycle is divided into three distinct phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen. In the anagen phase, the cells in the root of the hair divide rapidly and cause it to grow. The catagen phase is a transitional period where hair growth slows down before transitioning into the telogen phase. In this phase, the follicle rests and no new hairs are produced. The amount of time a person spends in each phase varies from individual to individual; but if one of these phases is delayed or shortened due to, for example, illness, stress or something else, it can affect the hair's normal growth.

Second, genetics plays an important role in how fast one's hair grows, and it can be inherited through both parents' genes. People with genetic diseases such as alopecia areata may experience thinning or baldness due to their genetics. This can lead to permanent hair loss or minimal hair regrowth.

Finally, lifestyle factors such as diet, stress and lack of sleep can all contribute to the body's ability to maintain normal hair or even baldness over time. Poor nutrition and excessive use of styling products can damage the scalp's natural oils and weaken the hair follicles, resulting in slower hair growth or thinning strands. Likewise, high stress levels have been linked to changes in hormones, which can cause temporary changes in your hair. Too little sleep is also a factor that can affect your body's ability to produce healthy proteins, including those needed to maintain normal hair.

How to grow long hair: Look for these ingredients

If you want long and luscious hair, it can be beneficial to read up on which ingredients could be beneficial to use in your hair care routine. Especially for those of you who feel that hair growth has stopped, are experiencing hair loss or can feel that the hair has become thinner, we recommend looking for the ingredient Capilia Longa. Through studies, it has demonstrated a reduction of up to 89% after 150 days, while at the same time increasing hair density by up to 52%.
Another ingredient is Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract which has been shown to increase the diameter of the hair by up to 11.3%.

In addition, I would generally recommend looking for ingredients that are nurturing and moisturizing, such as shea butter and aloe vera. Often the reason your hair won't grow long is because the hair strands break. This can be due to many different reasons, but with good and healthy hair care with plenty of moisture, you are well on your way to having long hair.

Frequently asked questions about long hair

Why does hair grow faster in summer?

In summer, hair growth is more active than in other seasons due to longer periods of daylight and warmer temperatures. The hair growth process starts with the anagen phase, which is the active growth phase. As the sun's rays provide more heat and humidity during the summer months, the scalp produces more natural oil, which nourishes the hair follicles. This leads to faster hair growth which can cover up to 1.3cm per month in the summer compared to just 0.8cm in the winter months. In addition, other external factors such as diet also affect normal hair. Overall, it is believed that warmer temperatures and longer days stimulate a higher level of natural oil production in the scalp as well as better nutritional intake, both of which are responsible for faster hair growth in the summer months.

How much does hair grow in 3 months?

In general, all hair grows approximately 1-2 centimeters per month, which corresponds to 3-6 centimeters in 3 months. However, this result can vary greatly from person to person. For example, if you have dry and worn hair, it may be that your hair does not grow at all, as the hair strands break before they grow further. If you have good hair care, however, you can easily grow your hair a lot of centimeters in 3 months.

How much hair grows in 14 days?

Hair growth can vary from person to person, but on average hair grows approx. 1.25 cm per month. This means that the hair will grow on average approx. 0.44 cm in 14 days. It is important to note that other factors such as genetics, health status and hair care routines can also affect hair growth.

How long is long hair?

Long hair is on average about 65-80 centimetres. However, it can vary greatly from person to person how long the hair can be.

Can everyone have long hair?

No. Whether or not you can grow long hair is highly individual, there are a number of factors that determine this, including genetics, lifestyle and general hair care. Specifically, it is determined by your hair's growth phase, if it is shorter than normal you will therefore find it difficult to grow long hair.
